For 9 days last week, the New Zealand Choir took a plane to New Zealand. I’m not in the NZ Choir so I stayed back at school with everyone else. Our teacher went to new Zealand too, so our class split up into the other to classes. We completed 2 projects, one was an invitation to the opening of our new school hall and the other was a poster about a car for the boys and an animal for the girls. The car that I did was the SSC Ultimate Aero made by Shelby Supercars. In our class we also did a drawing of a parrot.

Since the holidays ended, our class have been studying Inanimate Alice, which is a series of digital stories on the net. There are 5 groups. In my group there are
We study the episodes and ask questions about things that haven’t been expained. here is an example ofI am enjoing it because it fun to watch the episodes. We sometimes predict what will happen, I predict that in the next episiode Alice will be 15 years old. From what you have heard about Inanimate Alice, do you think that you would like it? The Hypnotising Bling Dog Da Cool Monkey The Laughing Elepant The Evil Rat Tonight, the school is going to have an Open Night. Open nights are a chance for parents to see their child’s work and to listen to the choir. The choir start at 6:00 and finish at 6:30, and are going to be singing 4 songs. They are:
I’m not going to go to the choir section, but I am going to go to the main part of the night, which goes from 6:30 to 7:30. Our class is going to show a slideshow on our whiteboard that Jacob and I have made. At school, every year at the 17th of September, all the classes manage a stall at Fair Day to raise money. Different classes do different things, they could sell lollies, drinks or do a game with prizes. Our class is managing 2 stalls. Our first stall is a stall that sells non-alcoholic cocktails. We are making 2 cocktails called Sunrise and Summertime Soda. Summertime Soda has lemon, orange and grapefruit juice, sugar and ice cream. Our other stall does nail painting, donated by the class girls. On Monday, our three year 6/7 c lasses got into groups and went obn different excurtions according to their topic. Our group was the only group to stay in the school grounds. Our topic was invasive plants so we had a look at the weeds in our school. We pulled up some young apple tree saplings using a tree popper. The tree popper used leverage to pull the young trees out of the ground. We tried pulling them up with our bare hands and it was really hard. We then tried digging some bulbous ferns out with a trowl and ended up pulling them out. The pupose of the exersise was (I think) to learn that 1 person can do a lot. I learnt what a tree popper was a nd how it worked. Here is an example of how it looked, though it had had lots of small seedlings around it. Last Friday, our school’s three year 5/6/7 classes went on an excursion to the Art Gallery, the SA Museum and the Botanical Gardens. We got on the train at Blackwood Station and after a rather boring train journey, lasting 45 minutes, we arrived at Adelaide. First, we visited the Art Gallery to see some Aboriginal art. The first exhibit we saw was called “Yuelamu Honey Ant Dreaming” by Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri. It was an bird’s eye view of a dreaming story, in which a flood happened and knocked the tops of the honey ant nests off. I noticed that the colours of the painting were all desert colours like browns and yellows. We didn’t hear much of the story, which was a shame but it may have been sacred. Here is an image of it: We also went around looking at some bark paintings, the guide, Anne, showed us how the bark was cut from the tree and straightened. Here is the procedure:
Later, we looked at a painting called “Aboriginal Queen”, the meaning of the painting was that may be in the future there will be an Aboriginal leader like the Prime Minister.I hope it will happen because at the moment aboriginal people are being subjected to racism and abuse. After the Art Gallery we went next door to the SA Museum in the Biodiversity Gallery. Our guide was called Chris. We got divided into groups of 4 or 5. James, Jacob and Daniel were in my group. We did the section called “Temparate Climate”. It was quite interesting, but I wish we had done the marine section because it is much bigger and had lots of items like massive shark jaws. Our section had a area in it that was about animal speicies in the city. There was 3 categories -
We had to brainstorm some different animals and sort them into the different groups, which I found very easy. Third, we walked through the Botanical Gardens and on the way stopped to look at the water lilly pond. The lilly leaves were massive, they were about 1 metre in diameter. There was one that had been turned upside-down and the bottom was spikey. I learnt that at night the lillies give off a scent to attract insects such as bees. I was amazed at how boyant they were. They reminded me of some lillies that I have read about in a book that can support the weight of a baby. Lastly, we had lunch at the Festival Theatre Plaza, and after that we walked to the train and got to Apex Park. We waited there for our parents to pick us up.We were all feeling exhasted, because the day had had lots of walking in it. However, it was better than a day at school! On Friday the three year 6/7 classes went to Belair National Park, for the cluster sports day. The cluster sports day involves all the schools from around the area, including the high school. There were lots of groups with a letter each, I was in group P. I think it wasn’t very fun.=( See, ya |
